Where it grows

Echinocereus knippelianus is indigenous to mountainous areas of Mexico, specifically to the Sierra Madre Oriental mountains.

Special features

This is the variegated form of Echinocereus knippelianus. It has a gray-green stem with attractive yellow variegation. It has a relatively soft to the touch stem.

Care Guide

Echinocereus knippelianus prefers full morning sun, or light shade. To enhance its colour, expose it to more light. This is a relatively easy species to take care of, as long as it has good soil. A 1:1:1 mix of Ibaraki Akadama:Hyuga Pumice:Perlite is recommended. It is highly important to only water these plants in spring and summer, as doing so in winter will easily cause stem rot.
