Where it grows
This cactus is native to arid parts of the southern United States of America, specifically Arizona, New Mexico and Texas.
Special features
This cactus is covered in small, feather like thorns that make the stem appear almost completely white. This also gives the plant a symmetrical appearance. In contrast to most cacti, it tends to be self fertile, and readily produces plentiful red seed pods in spring and summer.
Care guide
This cactus should be kept under at least 40% shade cloth to avoid sunburn. It should be planted in a deep pot with gritty soil to accommodate these roots. Water it well during the summer months, but keep completely dry during the colder times of the year.
