Hyuga pumice is a gritty, naturally occurring volcanic rock, mined in a coastal city in Japan called Hyƫga. It is a versatile soil medium used particularly in bonsai. It is also extremely useful for succulents, as it provides good drainage while retaining somewhat more moisture than its counterpart Akadama.

Generally, it is best utilized in conjunction with mediums like Ibaraki Akadama instead of on its own. We have both a pre-mix of Ibaraki Akadama and Hyuga pumice available, as well as other succulent mixes that incorporate Hyuga pumice as a component of the soil mix.

Suitable for:
A variety of different plants, including bonsai and most succulents.

Sold in 18L bags.

Product FAQS

Most nurseries, hardware stores and some plastic shops should offer shade cloth. Generally, buying it from an agricultural store that supplies the farming industry will be a bit cheaper.

Take a good potting soil or compost, sift thoroughly to remove any clumps or foreign material. Add 40% - 60% drainage material i.e. pumice, perlite, stones, etc. The soil mixes we offer are filled with components that give them strong drainage, and we highly recommend them as a good starting point to learn how soil mixes should work.
