Where it grows

Native to Mexico.

Special features

Gray-green, non-clustering cactus that forms white hair on the areoles and growth point at maturity. They have sharp-petalled pinkish-white flowers in spring. Also known as the ‘peyote’ cactus.

Care guide

This cactus should be kept under at least 40% shade cloth to avoid sunburn. They have incredibly large and thick taproots, and should be planted in a deep pot with gritty soil to accommodate these roots. Water them well during the summer months, but keep utterly dry during the colder times of the year, as they require a rest period to flower. If you want to encourage the formation of more white hair on the stem, only water from the bottom.

Growing season

Spring and summer.
