Make sure you are purchasing your Stephania from a reputable nursery. We do not currently stock this plant as most of them in cultivation are poached from nature, and we have not found a reliable source of cultivated specimens.
Where it grows
Stephania erecta is native to southeast Asia, specifically Thailand.
Special features
This intriguing caudex plant has a strange potato-like stem. It is deciduous, and produces a long, vining stem with round leaves in spring and summer.
It is sometimes called Stephania pierrei.
Care Guide
This species’ leaves are relatively light-sensitive and burn easily in too much sun. Stephania erecta should be kept under at least 40% shade cloth or be given bright indirect light. The soil medium should be well draining, and preferably include both organic material and gritty components. Water well in spring and summer, but keep it dry when it is dormant in winter.
