At Living Desert Plants, we believe that the best plants should only be planted in the best soil, and have tried and tested a wide variety of soil mediums for all our plants. We can now share the results of this rigorous testing with all succulent enthusiasts!
We base all our mixes on two key ingredients: Ibaraki Akadama and Hyuga pumice. These versatile mediums originate from volcanic deposits in Japan, and have been used by artisan bonsai growers for centuries. Due to their fantastic porosity, drainage, and trace nutrient content, these two mediums are excellent to use when cultivating succulent plants.
Living Desert Plants sells both pure Ibaraki Akadama and Hyuga pumice, as well as our own special succulent mix that incorporates both these and some other ingredients.
Want to learn more about the soil mediums we use and how to best utilise them? Be sure to check out our Learn section dedicated to our mixes for some insightful knowledge gained from our personal experiences using them to grow plants in our nursery.
