Where it grows
Monadenium rubellum is native to Kenya.
Special features
This species has an attractive caudex that sprouts long, dark green stems tipped by elongated leaves. Strangely, the leaves are green on the upper surface and pink below.
The stems also form petite pink flowers year-round.
Care Guide
Monadenium rubellum needs plenty of light, but not direct sun. It would be quite happy in a greenhouse with 40-60% shade cloth. This plant requires well drained soil to prevent root rot. A mix of pumice and coco peat is suitable. Water moderately in spring and autumn, but keep dry in winter.
Growing season
Spring and autumn.
