Where it grows
The natural form is native to Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.
Special features
Monadenium stapelioides is a long-branched succulent that grows creeping stems along the ground. The variegated form has almost pure-white stems and green-white leaves, and if given enough light will turn an attractive pink colour.
Care guide
Give them enough light to accentuate their true colours. If kept in a greenhouse, full morning sun or 40% shade cloth will keep them growing happily. Plant in a very well drained and airy soil mix as they are quite prone to root and stem rot. They should receive plentiful water in the warmer months, but it is safer to keep them dry when it’s cold.
Growing season
Spring and summer.
