Special features

This Gymnocalycium, also known as the “Chin cactus”, has soft, brittle spines protruding from chin-like ridges. These particular specimens have striking colorful variegation covering portions of their stem surface.

Care guide

These cacti need plenty of light and should be planted under 40% shade cloth, at most. The more light they receive, the more colorful they will become. They are incredibly sensitive to overwatering and should be planted in a gritty, fast draining soil mix that does not hold much water. A mix involving Akadama and pumice is ideal. Water often in summer, but keep completely dry in winter.

Growing season

Spring and summer.

Propagation

Offsets and seeds.
