Haworthiopsis attenuata v. tanba f. variegata
Haworthiopsis attenuata v. tanba f. variegata exhibits dark green foliage featuring creamy-yellow longitudinal stripes and raised white tubercles. This slow-growing variegated cultivar forms a tight rosette that clusters profusely with offsets over time.

Origin and Natural Habitat
The parent species originates from rocky grasslands and thicket vegetation in the Eastern Cape Province of South Africa. Plants grow hidden beneath shrubs or wedged into rocky soil pockets that provide partial shade. These natural microenvironments offer rapid drainage and protection from scorching sun exposure.

Plant Characteristics
The stemless rosettes grow up to twelve centimeters in diameter, forming dense clumps as basal offsets emerge. Thick, fleshy leaves feature rough white tubercles across both surfaces, complemented by longitudinal cream and yellow variegation lines. Tubular, white-green flowers emerge on slender racemes during spring. The root system consists of thick, fleshy roots that demand proper oxygenation.

Care Guide
Light
Provide bright, indirect light or morning sun. Intense midday rays scorch the pale variegation sectors and damage leaf cell walls. Gentle illumination maintains distinct color contrast.

Soil
The delicate root system requires immediate drainage to prevent fatal root rot. Plant the specimen in LDP Super Drainage Mix to ensure quick water runoff and optimal root oxygenation.

Water
Water thoroughly during active spring and autumn growth phases. Allow the substrate to dry out completely between watering sessions. Reduce watering frequency during hot summer peaks and cold winter rests to protect the plant from moisture stress.

Pot Size
Select a shallow pot or wide container matching the clustering root structure. Avoid oversized containers that retain excess moisture around the base.

Temperature
Keep ambient temperatures between 10°C and 28°C. Protect the plant from hard frost and freezing conditions.

Humidity
Maintain low humidity and high airflow. Stagnant air invites fungal rot during damp periods.

Fertilizing
Apply a balanced liquid succulent fertilizer diluted to quarter strength once at the start of the spring growth season. Avoid heavy feeding and stop fertilization entirely during dormancy.

Growing Season
Haworthiopsis attenuata v. tanba f. variegata grows actively during the mild temperatures of spring and autumn. It slows its metabolism during peak summer heat and cold winter months.

Propagation

You can propagate this plant through offset division.

Offset Division
Detach rooted basal offsets carefully from the parent rosette using a sterile blade during spring repotting. Allow the cut surfaces to dry for three days until callused. Plant the divisions directly into dry LDP Super Drainage Mix. Wait one week before applying light water to encourage new root growth. Offset division preserves the exact variegation pattern of the parent plant.

Product FAQS

To mimic their natural environments, succulents should receive infrequent, but heavy watering during their growing season. Soak the soil once every 10-14 days, then allow it to dry before watering again.
